Worth fooling with?

A friend has a couple of SD DirecTV Tivos (Hughes and Philips) that are stuck on "Almost There" screens. He's offered to give them to me for free. Are they worth fooling with? I've got an 80G HD that I pulled from my Philips 708 that I replaced with a hacked 250G. I've also got the $5 CD with updated kernel.
