I have a old sd-dvr 40 that has been hacked to include the hmo option. I no longer have service with directv so I do not have the dish hooked up to it. It is running the 6.2 software. I want to stream music from my computer to it and use hmo to play the music. It does that just fine but always wants to acquire information from the satellite. Is there a way I can disable it from trying to acquire information from the satellite? All I want to do is look at photos and listen to my computer music with it. No tv or tivo. Thanks

It would appear nobody has done this. Off the top of my head, you have three options.
1. Ignore the nag. (yes, I hate this option).
2. Disassemble tivoapp and block the nag. (Hmm, option 1 sounds better all of a sudden).
3. Put up a dish, point it at 101, and run some coax. (Nah - that would be giving up).

I like option 2 the best. Only wish I could do it. Cmon you tivo experts, I know somebody has the answer. I will give the first person who does it a big heart felt thank you, or a shiny nickle. Which ever you prefer. :D

If this could be done, we could transfer shows to this unit, stream music to it, veiw photos over it. This could be a great music-video server for around 50 bucks. They units are super cheap on ebay. We would not have to pay for any service. No cable hookup except for the network. And since we never have to leave it on, no noise in the bedroom when the tv is not on. I am willing to try and figure this out myself but I do not know where to start. So, if anyone can point me in the right direction, I will sacrifice mine to achive this. I have "some" linux experience.

I suspect the reason you're not getting much response is that nobody has done it, or at least done it successfully.
I have two unsubbed DTivos that I use for video watching. Yes, when I'm not watching something I get the nags, but it's not a big deal at all -- a quick press of Menu and all is well. For music perhaps it's more of an issue -- I use a hacked Xbox for music streaming.

Well, I found sort of a solution. My main concern was that the unit would turn on to aquire the satellite even when I was not using it. Seems if I remove the access card it will not do that anymore. I still have to clear the nag screen when I use it but I can live with that.
I really believe that this unit would make a great server. I would like to try this myself, does anyone know of a link that teaches tivoapp 101.

I tried killing different processes just to see if I could stop the DSS functions while keeping the HMO functions, but have so far been unsuccessful.
ANother way to attack this is to find the part of the code where it returns to Live TV after several minutes of inactivitiy. If we could remove that code, then the IRD would not try to connect to the satellite.

fixn278, GREAT find!! I never saw that utility before now. Guess cause it was lurking in Series 1 area. Too bad this hack does not work for 6.2, or it would solve the problem for using my HDVR2s as dedicated HMO clients without having them hooked up to satellite cable. Right now the utility is only for 4.0 and below.

So this has been done before, Exellent! To bad it is not for 6.2. Im glad to see other people interested in this. If there is anything I can do let me know.

Hey, I thought you were working on it. If you want me to do it, I'll do it for a nickel - provided it's a mint condition 1937 D 3 legged Buffalo Nickel. :D
