I'm trying to change my DSR7000 baked to 6.2 from my current working wired network to a wireless network. I have a westell modem setup as an ethernet bridge going to my linksys wrt54gs wireless router. I have a linksys game adapter for my dtivo. When I use the wired network all is fine, but when I try to use the game adapter, the network won't find it. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
NJ

Basic questions,
1. have you tired verifying that you can successfully connect through the Linksys game adapter using a laptop or computer?
2. I'm not familiar with the Linksys game adapter, but does it require it's client be set up for DHCP?
3. is your dsr7000 configured with a static IP address or a configured for DHCP?

With more info, it might be possible to diagnose the network trouble you're seeing. Depending upon the speed of your game adapter, you might be better off just getting a Wireless USB adapter for your dtivo.

Thanks for the help. My network consists of only a pc and my dtivo, so I'm not sure if there is a way to check it. I do know that it is configured to work. My baked dsr7000 is setup with a dynamic dns. Let me know if there is any other info you need.

Hmm... so in terms of networking components, you have a Westell Wireless router, you have a Linksys WRT54GS router (that you've evidently loaded with non-stock firmware) so that you can bridge with the Westell Wireless router, and you have a Linksys Game adapter.

In terms of devices, you have only your PC and your tivo.

Do I have this correct? If this is the case, I would suggest the following:

1) configure your computer to request a DHCP address. Connect your PC's Ethernet to the game adapter, and using your PC (and the game adapter software), configure the game adapter to connect to the Westell Wireless router and verify that you can get to the Internet.

2) repeat this procedure, but this time use your PC and your WRT54GS and not your game adapter. Again verify that you can successfully connect to the Internet.

3) connect your Tivo to your game adapater, and then check the tivo's IP address using a serial cable. You should be able to ping your tivo from your PC (you might want to connect your PC through an Ethernet cable to the Westell Wireless router to rule out some other problems).

Finally, I'll note that there are at least three different ways of doing Ethernet/wireless bridging, and what seems simple at first blush is actually non-trivial. it's possible that the Linksys game adapter and WRT54GS (with Svaesoft or whatever it is) do the bridging in an incompatible fashion. It might be best to use the WRT54GS with the Tivo first (and connect your PC directly to the Westell), and thereby figure out what is going on.

Hope this helps.

The Westell is wired and the Linksys is wireless. The westell is set as an ethernet bridge. I also have a wired linksys router. Does any of this make a difference?

I could be missing something. What is the Westell bridging?
