I have a prom socketed DTiVo. Is it possible to upgrade it to current software, without losing the recordings, in order to network it with my system? Any help would be great.
Thanks,
NJ

If you can provide more info, it would be easier to say. What model do you have, R10? DSR7000?
R10's can only run software version 6.1, while other DTiVo's can run 3.1.x, 4.0.1b, or 6.2. Either way, it should be possible to upgrade and hack your system without losing your recordings. There are several ways to go about this, but I would suggest allowing your stock Dtivo to upgrade to 6.2, and then hack it.

This is a different DTiVo than in the other post. This is a prom modded Hughes HDVR2. The system information shows that it is a Comcast unit. It is running a software version in the 5's. I'm trying to upgrade it so that I can network it, without losing the recordings. I've read some info regarding using slices? Is this the info that you need? Please let me know if there is anything else you need.
Thanks,

I wasn't aware that Comcast provided satellite receivers, but there is a lot I don't know. Please verify the model number of the receiver, the software version (from the system information screen), and whether or not it is hacked.
The upgrade to 6.2 is fairly easy on a hacked unit: Download the slices, load them into the mfs database, edit the install program, run it, rehack, reboot. The slices can be found on the eD2K network; get the eMule client at www.emule-project.net. This thread (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42325) and this one (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42429) have a lot of information on upgrading a previously hacked system to 6.2.

The system info states the following:
Comcast Series 2
S/W 4.0-01-2-230
TiVo Serv # 150
118 hrs
Hopefully this will help. Let me know.

Hmm...
I've never seen a Comcast Dtivo/HDVR2. You might be better off posting the serial numbers/info from the sticker on the back of the unit rather than going off the information screen. How did you install version 4.0 software on it?

I do believe there was, at one time, an image floating around that said Comcast.

The service number is 150-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
The person who modded the prom put the software on and hacked the unit for me.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks, Cheer. I thought I remembered that too.

You might want to check with them again. But from memory, folks who "upgraded" to version 4.0 via slices would receive the 6.2 image over the sat feed, and thus it's just a matter of executing installSw.itcl (try some searches on that).
For folks who installed a virgin 4.0 image (i.e., those that did not upgrade via slices), I think they did not receive the 6.2 software over the sat feed. For them, I think they had to grab the 6.2 slices of eMule, dbload them by hand, and then install.
Honestly, depending upon the number/size of your recordings, I'd say that you're better off downloading all your recordings to your PC as tmf's, installing a new 6.2 image, hacking that, and then uploading your recordings back. There are some posts, guides, and even scripts that should handle most of the heavy lifting for you. Otherwise, you'll need to search the forums to find much of the info that you need.

The links in this post (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=255675&postcount=4) tell you how to upgrade it to 6.2.
