It refuses to start up, and this is the last I get on the console.

Any ideas?

Ideas? No. But that's not surprising - you didn't even tell us what hardware, software, and hacks you're dealing with.

S2, TDC2400 80 Hour. No hacks.

If I had to guess, I'd say your hard drive is developing a bad spot. Unfortunately, instead of in a recording it may be in your linux partition.

You could try a kickstart 52 code (emergency reinstall) which installs the system software from MFS into the alternate boot/root partitions and flips them. That might get you running for awhile, but I'd still recommend getting a new hard drive.

Yikes, Narf, when did you make diamond? Man, seems like you just joined yesterday... :)

I removed the drive (original 80 HD that came with the unit), ran the latest PowerMax on it on advanced scan, and the software said that "Maxtor certifies the the hard drive is error free"

Still, I think I should take that with a grain of salt.

I re-imaged and re-installed again on the same HD...

Incidentally, how would anyone kickstart a 52 code?

KICKSTART PROCEDURES
While booting the power light will change from green to yellow as the line 'checkpanic' in the rc.sysinit gets executed. This happens a few seconds before the screen changes from the startup image to "almost there" and it's your cue to hold down a button (use pause) on the remote to trigger a panic. When the record light changes yellow, key in one of the following sequences:

0 - emergency call to tivo, touchtone dialing
1 - emergency call to tivo, pulse dialing
9 - emergency call to tivo, touchtone w/ 9 prefix
-- I suggest not doing any of these unless explicitly instructed

52 - emergency reinstall
-- this will act like you've received new software but will reinstall the existing software on the alternate root partition and boot it, particularly useful so you don't have to go trolling for backup images when your hacks fail.

56 - software install

57 - mfs check
58 - perform mfs cleanup
-- both of these will cause the green screen and various mfs checks
These were posted somewhere at either TCF or tivo.com...use at your own risk!

Although my tag says I "joined" in Jan 2005, I've been somewhat of a lurker for long before that, since at least 2003.:)
