View Full Version : No Prom menu? I must be going insane

I remember back in the day getting into the prom menu on my S1 dtivo, using 9600,n,8,1 for the port settings and pressing enter twice. Works fine on my S2 dtivo.

But for some odd reason it just doesn't work at all for my S1. I am curious if the hacked prom image I am using just has it disabled somehow or something. The menu just doesn't even come up at all. Is anybody aware if this may be the case? Are there any prom images floating around that have an issue like this that I may have inadvertantly used? Or am I just going insane?

If not does anybody know where I can find a known good prom image?

EDIT: Better yet, has anybody seen a copy of the prom image floating around that allows you to see the console output through the serial port? This would really help me with my current S1 dealings right about now. (Right now I can't even tell what the hell is wrong with the damn things when they don't boot - very frustrating.)

This is from the readme file from Todd's LBA48 kernel for the new DTivo series 1 software.

It is now possible to use the DSS port as the system console,
allowing you to see the boot and kernel messages. To enable
this, set "dsscon=true" in the boot parameters, just like
you would on a Series 2 TiVo.

Hmm...doesn't work for me for whatever reason. But I would still like to see the prom menu though, no way a kernel could ever enable that.

I'm not sure if console display is part of the stock kernel or a change that Todd made with the LBA48 hacked kernel.

If you're still looking for information regarding the PROM reply or drop me a PM. I'll hunt for my serial cable, reboot my T-60 and see if the PROM menu comes up.

It won't get the menu. I have been reading posts that date back longer than I have even been at this forum, and I have found out that tivo apparently disabled the prom menu and the console output in the later versions of the prom. Somebody patched the prom to re-enable it (think similar to how we enable HMO on 6.2 dtivo's) only I am not certain if this prom patch has been tested:

I haven't tried it on mine yet.
