I've got a HDVR2 with 3.1.0-01-2.151 software... I can only assume that this was a flavor of 3.1.0 for S2 DTivos when they first came out. I've had this unit for several years and plugged it into the landline only once when I first pulled it out of the box.

Need to keep the programming so I'm looking to slice upgrade to 6.2 and enable all of the HMO/MRV capabilities and add a second drive. I noticed, however, that most of the slice upgrade instructions are for units that have at least 3.1.1(x).

It is "safe" to move forward with a slice upgrade on this older rev of software using the 3.1.1 process or are there additional 'considerations' that need to be addressed... or is this wholly uncharted territory and I'm on my own?

I'm a UNIX hack from way back (20+ years) so I don't shy away from kernel mods and shell gymnastics. Just need direction.

Thanks!

If the unit has not been hacked then just connect it to a phone line and force a few daily calls until it takes the update to 6.2. Chances are the slices are already downloaded and are just waiting the initialization prompt from the mothership when it makes a daily call.

I was all geared-up to do some assy coding and you're just telling me I simply need to plug it into the phone line?!? :D

OK. It hasn't been hacked, so I'll do that.

Thanks!

You'll also need to connect it to the satellite so it can download the slices if it hasn't already done so.

Since you want to add a second drive, 9thtee sells disk drive backets.
