Hi all. Greetings from a dd newbie.
I've been having a search around and can't find one. I've seen in post, years ago, that it was contentious at the time (open source or not) but as it's not hacking DirectTv, only a standalone Tivo, added to the fact that Tivo themselves made it opensource, surely it's just a back up file? I know it's now old, but hopefully there are still people out there who may be able to help. I've found a couple of sites, or mentions of, where you have to pay to become a member, but to be honest, TivoCommunity and DealDatabase have the march on these others... imo.... so like I say if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
Many thanks
dd

Tivo's aren't entirely open source, just the linux kernel that they use is. The underlying binaries that run what you see of the tivo OS are very closed and very proprietary.

As for where you can find a backup image, I am not sure, you may try searching on emule or asking in the image begging thread (or search around in that thread and see if somebody posted one already.) It is technically illegal to distribute those though, but we are pretty lax about letting it slide so long as dealdatabase itself free from any liability.

Hi AW
Fair enough. I knew there was an aspect of openness about it but it never hurts to be put right, does it.
I'm trying to avoid emule if possible, as it's horrendously slow, p2p is something I'm trying to avoid these days and when you do get a file, it can be wrong or corrupt. I'll try the image thread though, so thanks for that suggestion. If not, a friend may turn one up, if it's not been lost by the removal men!

May your teeth never be blunt.

cheers

Apologies if the silly linking ban is reciprocated on this site!
