Hi,I have 2 series 2 tivos 1 hacked, 1 not
I have been using tivoserver with the hacked tivo for some time and it has worked great
My problem is I am unable to use the home media service to transfer a video between the hacked and the unhacked tivo, I get the error "the DVR cannot be reached because teh connection was unexpecidly broken"
Does transfer not work between a hacked and a non hacked tivo?
If so what NEEDS to be done to the unhacked one to make it work?
the non-hacked HAS to be hacked. there's no way around that.

What is the least I need to do to get it working?
Whats the best way to do it on a never hacked tivo?

Its a TCD140060 latest software, updated the past few days.
I did a BUNCH of hacks on the other a while back , for this one all I want is the mrv, so I was wondering what is the least I need to do and the easiest way to do it
Thanks

Can we assume you're running 7.2.2 software right now?
For a TCD140, you're going to want the 7.2.2-oth-K1 killhdinitrd kernel. To get MRV you'll need a PC, Tivo linux boot CD, and you'll need to pull out the hard drive from the Tivo.
EDIT: Put the tivo drive in the PC and boot with the Tivo linux CD. Don't allow Windows XP to boot up and mess up your Tivo's drive signature.
(1) Copy old drive to a new, possibly bigger HDD. mfsadd if its a bigger drive. At this point, make sure it boots up, then pull the drive out again.
(2) (EDITED) dd the killhdinitrd kernel onto the active partition. ( preferably 7.2.2-oth-K1) Also fix the bootpage settings.
(3) do the /sbin/iptables replacement trick
(4) Stick AlphaWolf's S2 utilities (tivotools.tar) in a good place and unpack the archive.
(5) fix rc.sysinit to allow telnet and console access.
(6) put the drive back in and boot up. Load superpatch and run it from the newly hacked Tivo bash prompt. Reboot. Congrats, now you should have MRV.
BTW - of you follow a 'guide' of some sort for DirecTivos, be wary of instructions telling you things like "blocking access" to the mothership. Standalone tivos require calling into tivo.com.

For the TCD140060 you had to use the 3.1.1c kernel and monte to a killed 7.x.x kernel until the latest version of the PTV LBA48 CD came out. As I understand it the 7.2 kernel that comes on that CD can be used directly on 140 hardware. Have not yet tried the new kernel myself yet.

Not that I'm aware of. You might consider doing a bit of reading until you understand the above -- it's not as bad as you think.
