So it seems I finally got the 3.5 update sometime today. :(

Back when I had pay channels, I used to pull movies (had noscramble.o loaded) but we dropped the pay channels, so I stopped pulling the shows. Didn't unload the noscramble.o, however.

Now the update has come down, and I've lost ALL connectivity to my Sony SAT T-60. No telnet, this is to be expected I guess, but what really annoys me is that the serial port no longer works!! What's up with that??!!

Has anyone else seen this? Is it just a coincidence? Will I have to pull the drive and reload the turbonet drivers? I assume so, but even if telnet is on, how will I activate it on other tty's?

Help!! I have about 8-9 shows that I REALLY wanted to see. (I know, it's only TV, but I like it!! :) ) A couple of series finales, etc. Can I pull the shows directly from the HD somehow?

I can live without noscramble.o, but I'd like to see these last few shows.

I'm searching this forum for help, but don't seem to see anything about losing the serial port. I noticed in the big 3.5 thread a way to turn off the scrambling again, but with no way to access my DTivo's CLI, I don't think that matters.

You gotta understand how the update happens. I'm sure it's been explained plenty of times, so if you want more information search this forum. I'm gonna give you the simplified version.

The updated software is installed somewhere else. Then the update script tell the DTiVo to reboot with the new software instead of the old. You probably started a bash shell on the serial port with a command in your rc.sysinit(.author) script. Since your old script isn't getting executed, you don't have access through the serial connection.

Ah, ok. I thought that the serial port was always available. All of my TiVo's always had it accessable to start the process from (loading hacks, I mean). I wasn't aware that a software update locked out everything.

Thanks for the tip. I thought I was completely stuck. Time to hit the search engine!
