I'm trying to view my past recording but when I hit play it just takes me to Delete this recording. Then when i hit don't delete it give me an Error playing a recording. I know the recording was there because I view it before but now I can't. I have a Sony SVR2000 with lifetime. Is there a default time limit to view recordings?

No, but if you have too big a drive, you might've accidentally overwritten part of the recording because of an LBA "wrap-around" or something. Or maybe your mfs is partially corrupt. You'll have to provide a lot more information about your system and if and how it was hacked or upgraded.

I used the Hinsdale how to guide for the harddrive upgrade to 300GB. First I made a backup of the original image then I use the command: mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi /xxx/xxx/mybackup.bak /dev/hdc to image the 300GB drive.

Okay, so you put a really, really large capacity drive in your Tivo. Did you install a custom LBA48 kernel in your boot partition?

EDIT: Here's a telling entry from the main Hinsdale How-To page (http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/index9.html):
"The current TiVo kernel on many models can only address 137GB of each drive, so although larger drives will work, not all of the capacity will be utilized."

You need a specialized LBA48 kernel or monte into an LBA48 kernel to see the whole drive.

What you describe sounds exactly like what happened when my >137GB drive machine got upgraded.
