Want to get confirmation I'm doing the right thing...

Ok, so in this thread (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49633), I found out that the recent 3.5 upgrade removed all my hacks. So I recreated my rc.sysinit.author file, but still get no telnet access.

I did more searching, and found that I never flashed the PROM. This DTIVO had an upgraded drive when I got it, so it looks like the previous owner flashed the PROM. So I guess I have to do it again to allow the rc.sysinit.author file to start telnet access. Right?

I've gotten the latest turbonet install CD from SiliconDust forums, and am planning to run the tivoflash script. I just wanted to make sure I'm headed in the right direction. Working with firmware always makes me nervous... :( I assume I'm okay using this older flash program, but with the way 3.5 locked everything out, it made me wonder if perhaps it would freak out on the different PROM.

you don't have to flash the prom, but you do have to kill_initrd. When you load the turbonet drivers it will prompt you to just answer yes.

I'm doing more searching to get more familiar with this whole process. kill_initrd, flashing, etc. I seem to go so long between hacks that I forget what I learned before. I guess from a hardware-reliability standpoint that's a good thing? :)
