Tried everything I can think of.... which is gonna be lame by most standards on this forum... but I'm stuck. I have a wierd problem and I need help understanding the next diagnostic step. several hours spent searching the forum every way I can think of.
The symtom is that my T60 boots up just fine and shows live TV from the dish fine... but when you access the Tivo menu, the system displays the menu overlays but not the background. It shows the menu framework superimposed over the live TV show which continues to play. At that point all control input is frozen and no inputs on the remote or panel do anything. Whenever the menu screen times out it goes back to showing live TV and control is restored.
The channel guide and other menu overlays, like the summary info on the show your watching or the lower third overlay that shows where you are in the program continue to work fine. The HD is obviously functioning fine as things like pause and rewind and ff all work and the channel guide indicates that previously specified season passes are working and recording shows. The red LED indicates recording start and stop.
I have removed the cover and checked the 3, 5 & 12V supplies and all are good. The system does not seem to be overheating and I have re-seated everything including the infamous ribbon cable,
Cant tell if this is related to the 3.5 upgrade or not as it started about a week ago and I can not access the menus or do a system reset. I'm sure it would help to check the system from the cli (Bash?) and I'm sure I coult get the serial port and telnet part together with a trip to radioshack but I know absolutely nothing when it comes to unix or linux so I'm not sure it would be productive without some pretty painful handholding.
Can anyone suggest a logical next step or 5 next steps or anything that would let me go further? I'm not too worried about saving the programming thats on the HD and I have a copy of instacake but I'd hate to blow everything when the drive is clearly not at fault. All help appreciated.
