View Full Version : Putting HDVR2 on network.

I hate posting these questions but I've been searching through the threads and haven't been able to come up with the answer...

I recently replaced my original HDVR2 drive with a larger one. I used
the InstantCake 6.2 and PTVNet software to create a new DirecTivo
image with the HMO enabled.

Now I want to put my Tivo on the network and I can't find a thread that
tells me how to do this. I've seen lots of stuff where people troubleshoot
the process when it doesn't work, but I don't know where the starting point of the process is.

I'd like to go wireless and I've seen that one needs to install the latest
ax8817x.o drivers. But I have no clue how to install them or where
to obtain them.

I don't mind going wired but I also don't know how one configures that
setup either. Does one just plug in the cable to the USB network
adapter and that's it?

If anyone can point me to a link or thread that explains this process from
the beginning, I would be very greatful!

The other question I have is:
I'd like to put the original 40gb drive in the unit as a slave so I can
pull off the movies. Is this possible?

I'm sorry for being a typical n00b with this but any answers you guys
could give me would be awsome. I just need someone to point me in
the right direction and I can take it from there.

Thanks again for all the valuble info!

I'm not all that familiar with PTVnet but I believe it enables networking functionality for your DTivo. If that's the case then all you need to do is connect it to your home network using the appropriate ethernet adapter and the IP address that was assigned to it. From there you should be able to connect to the DTivo from your PC if everything has been configured properly based on the IP address of your router. There are support forums at PTVUpgrade.com to help you with any PTVnet issues as it's not something we provide support for.

well, I just did the PTV 6.2 to my DirecTivo this week... I have the netgear wired USB one... and I installed the USB 2.0 drivers when I ran the scripts. I too went the menus and was perplexed as to why I only had 'phone' instead of 'phone and network'. (which is what I am currently looking to correct)...

But, ... yeah... I just plugged in the USB adaptor, plugged in the network cable, and turned the tivo on. Then I just checked my router and determined what IP it had, then dropped that into my browser, boom, I was there. All the services were up. I am currently trying to figure out how to CHANGE the IP to a static, etc... but that should get you started...

The Search button is your friend and could find this (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43375).

Actually, I was able to get everything up and running when I went back and installed the USB 1.2 drivers. Once that was done I restarted the
Tivo, checked my DHCP status and saw it was attached to the network.
From there it was all cake.

I also don't have any network settings in my tivo central but I think
maybe that's on the newer software versions that are only used by the
Tivo branded units, not the DTV ones. Not entirely sure tho.

But it doesn't really matter to me since everything seems to be working
as hoped. It' very nice to finally be able to yank the movies off my
tivo and burn them to DVD.

Now if I can find a prom for this R10 of mine, I can get it on the network
and try out the MRV features. That would be awsome. I guess it's
time to make friends with that search button.
