I have two Voyager Pioneer Cable boxes from Time Warner in New York City. I recently moved into a new apartment and kept the existing equipment. Everyone so often ill come home to find one of the boxes powered off. This happens to BOTH boxes and happened in both locations within manhattan. It renders my Tivo useless as i never know weather or not ill get lucky and have the Tivo record live TV, or record nothing.

I spent a lot of time hacking my box, so im sure you can feel my pain.

I had a funny feeling Time Warner might be doing this to promote thier DVR boxes. Anyone else in the NY-metro area have this problem??? I find in unlikely that both boxes are broken. I've even switched them and the same thing still happens.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I remember this problem from way back when. I can't remember all the solutions, but one involved hardwiring the box's remote to a switched AC power outlet on the back and using the discrete ON code. There was some wiring invloved that made the remote send the code when it lost power from the AC.

IIRC, the units shut themselves off when they get a firmware upgrade. Call TW and ask if there's any way to stop it from happening.
