Has it been confirmed, since the 6.x/7.x split, that the SA software doesn't contain the necessary components to run on a DTivo unit (i.e. for the tuners, etc.)? Or is there still hope that someday I can get some of the cool 7.x features on my DTivo.

Thanks,
Doc

Yes, it's been confirmed.

Just out of curiosity, what cool features are you looking for?

6.2 has a faster UI and folders - no hacking required. HMO and MRV work after the superpatch. Extraction and insertion are available - admittedly, not as slowly as the 'official' way on a SA TiVo.

HME, I would guess.

Yes, HME would be nice, plus I'd like to see Kid Zone in action. And finally, grasping for the golden straw of a supported and ever improving OS that might even run on a HR10-250.

Heh, yeah well if we can't even get 6.2 going on the HR10-250...

HME - IIRC, the ever knowledgeable Jamie has indicated TyTools and MFS-FTP are both faster. IIRC, HME also requires a TiVo subscription - mandatory with any Series 2, but impossible with a DirecTiVo.
KidZone? Never heard of it, but if it requires a subscription....

Supported and ever improving??? Or continuously being debugged? I'm sure 6.2 is not the ultimate DirecTiVo software possible, but frankly I would be hard pressed to identify and shortcoming that cannot be readily overcome. Plus it is nice not to have to deal with an upgrade every few (6?) months.

Faster than TivoToGo, certainly. But HME is more of an extension to HMO...there's all sorts of whatnots available that use/require HME.
IIRC, HME also requires a TiVo subscription - mandatory with any Series 2, but impossible with a DirecTiVo.Dunno about that...HMO once did too, right? :) Don't think we really have any way of knowing.
KidZone? Never heard of it, but if it requires a subscription....No idea on that either...only seen blurbs for it and I haven't paid any attention (my kids are now old enough that such a thing would annoy them greatly).

Tivo's constantly adding little HME-based gizmos, and Galleon (which is the updated replacement to JavaHMO) requires HME. I looked briefly at Galleon and thought it was pretty cool until I realized I couldn't use it..stopped looking after that. :)

On the whole, I myself have no burning need for 7.x...I am far more interested in a new release for the HR10-250. (If only I had a spare HR10-250 to play with...no way can I take the production unit out of service for experimentation!)

KidZone?

TiVo description of KidsZone (http://www.tivo.com/1.2.17.asp)

Looks like a way to partially limit your TiVo to record and display kid-friendly shows (by default) as some sort of "sub user" on a standalone TiVo unit. Seems to direct TiVo Suggestions to record kid-friendly content as well. Sorta like V-Chip along with recommended shows.
