Hello all,

I have an unhacked DSR7000 that I upgraded the HD to (137GB) a couple of years ago. Now I wanted to increase the HD again to 300 GB and keep all my recordings (as I have around 120 hrs of stuff on it still to watch, but am running out of room). I tried doing the expansion but got an error. I was told by someone on one of the other boards that you can only expand a HD once and then that's it. After checking some posts on this board it looked like there might be ways around it, but I'm not sure I understood what to do.

So I was hoping someone could tell me:

1) Definitively if it's possible to re-expand the HD on a S2 DTivo that has already been expanded and still keep the recordings.

2) What that would entail and any tips on how to go about it.

Thanks

A simple search of the forums will show you what you want to know. It's not impossible, but you have to be willing to twiddle some bits to do it.

Here's a link (http://alt.org/forum/index.php?t=msg&goto=769&rid=0&S=7685e15b700295296be568c78ad27ee8#msg_769). The process is non-trivial. (As in there are plenty of chances to make a mistake).

I searched, but as I said I wasn't sure I understood what I found. That's why I thought it might be better to post in the newbie forum rather than clog up the main forums with questions from someone who is less experienced. I was hoping someone here could tell me if there was a simpler way that I was just not seeing or maybe break it down in a way more understandable to a beginner.

Thanks for the link. It does sound fairly complex, so if that's the only way it would be possible to do what I want to do then I might hold off for awhile. I'm pretty sure I could figure it out with some time and research, but I just started work as a surgery intern (12-15 hr days, 6d/wk) at a busy hospital and free time is something I'm going to be lacking for a while. That's why I was hoping for a quick and easy solution, oh well. At least I know it is possible now which I wasn't even sure of before. I appreciate the response though, thanks.
