I got from eBay a Series 1 Tivo and have been having all types of problem with getting past the guided setup. I believe the modem is gone out, which frustrates me because I just got it. I guess that's the chance you take when you get a refurbished unit. Since the modem is fried I am thinking about buying a Turbonet card. So with that said and before I spend any more money I was wondering if there was available a series 2 standalone that will allow me to manual record?

Not without service, no. If you activate Tivo service, then yes.

There are the Pioneer and Toshiba dvd units that came with tivo basic (http://customersupport.tivo.com/knowbase/root/public/tv1199.htm).

Wasn't the question already asked and answered here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?p=258536#post258536)?

The reason why I asked it again was because I keep seeing articles about Series 2 Standalone models. And I keep hearing about Tivo Basic.

The reason why I asked it again was because I keep seeing articles about Series 2 Standalone models. And I keep hearing about Tivo Basic. The answer is the same. If you need further clarification, please refine the question.

All Pioneer and Toshiba DVD tivos came with tivobasic. The Toshiba DVD-writer models are Series2.5 (=harder to hack).
