I just recently (yesterday) upgraded my R80 with the PTV upgrade Cd (Universal Boot CD Version 11) from 80 to 300 Gb using the Hinsdale instructions and it worked fine. Today I noticed on the site it says the same cd will not work on R10. How do I upgrade an R10? is it not the same? using mfstools like mfsbackup?
Will I be able to make my R10 network ready with the usb as I did with my R80?
Any help would be appreciated.

You need to upgrade your boot PROM before you can change the kernel. In order to do that you need to replace the PROM (or modify the one that you remove).
It's a best practice just to replace the chip with a new socket and then you can modify the PROM in the future if needed.
I've just bought everything that I need to make several of these if you are willing to do the de-soldering/soldering yourself (or have someone local do it for you). I'll give you the modified chip for the cost of chip, socket and postage (probably about $5-6).
This is the thread that you want to start reading:

Once the upgrade is done, the PTV upgrade holds the kernel that you need to modify this.
