Hello, could anybody please help me on step by step on how to fix my tivo Model TCD540040.

Assuming by "fix" you mean "hack", the TCD540 requires a PROM replacement before doing anything more than Hard Drive replacement.

Completely unhackable unless you replace the PROM chip, which requires desoldering the existing one and soldering in a new socket, as well as programming and installing a new PROM. Not a trivial task.
