I have a Phillips HDR112 Series 1, TurboNet and broken modem. I have telnet, ftp, and Tivoweb setup but no program data. I can make the daily call but it still says none available for program data. Oh and I also get the uou must have valid TiVo Service messages.

What am I doing wrong?

You need to sub the unit. If it's already subbed, call TiVo Customer Care. If the unit is new to you, try running Guided Setup.

The unit is new and it didn't come with a hard drive. What does sub mean, subscription service? I am just going to use it to manual record, so I don't want to subscribe to the TiVo service.

I am just going to use it to manual record, so I don't want to subscribe to the TiVo service. Then you won't get program guide data; duh what do you think you are paying for?

Now for a more helpful response; as far as program guide data, the OzTivo blokes and tivocanada figured out how to do it, b/c they weren't able to get tivo service there (not sure about Canada anymore?). However, for those of us living in the USA, that sort of thing is called service theft and not discussed here. So if you're not going to sub, I'd stop making the daily calls...

Now, the beauty of the Philips HDR's is that the video is unscrambled off the bat (unlike some S1's). So you don't have to mess with any funky unscrambling techniques for the S1. So besides the normal goodies, like TivoWebPlus (which allows you to rename those "Manual recording" names) and the tserver (TyTool), you might want to look into something called fakecall which makes tivo think it successfully called in daily. Also, from within crond, you could run ntpdate to keep that clock in synchronization with public NTP servers. Oh, and did I mention that you can create recurring manual recordings; think of it as a poor man's season pass...

It's a great little box to kick around with...as long as you don't mind not having the names of your shows in the guide list :)

Thanks for the more helpful response ScanMan. I am going to start my research right now. I guess the first thing that I need to look into would be the fakecall thingy. Thanks again!!!
