View Full Version : MRV-only client going to the birds

Hi,

I recently converted an HDVR2 into a 6.2 MRV-only client. By that, I mean that there is no coax involved, just an ethernet connection. This box pulls recording from my other HDVR2s to the kids' playroom.

But there is a nice little "gotcha". Of course. :)

After a few minutes of idle time, the reciever pops up the Satellite Info screen and starts sniffing for the birds. I can get past the info screen into DirecTV Central without any problems (just poke the TiVo button), but...is there any way to make it stop doing this short of hooking up the coax?

Thanks,

Tim ==

Nope. I just found it easier to connect a sat feed and then just deal with the occasional nag about activating service on the unit. Of course, I already have sat feeds run to every room in my house so it wasn't a problem for me.

why don't you just run tivoserver on a pc with drives.. that is what I do to store all the movies shows I want and then you can re pull them down to any tivo unit using mrv.. I now have 6 hard drivers in a windows 2000 pc running tivoserver. .. 4 pata 1 serial ata and one external usb drive...

The "problem" is not pulling the shows, the problem is that is used as a client without cable to the sat and nags every few minutes.

I'm definitely no expert, but it sounds like what you're looking for is a patch to remove the nag screens. It can probably be done, but it would involve disassembly of either the tivoapp or dssapp files, and only then with enough MIPS understanding (something that's very much non-trivial for us lay folk). I could use such a patch also, but I think it's waaaaay over my head!
