What is MFS?

Is there a document describing the MFS partition format? When I first saw MFS I kind of assumed it was related to the Apple format (MFS = Macintosh File System), after digging through the forums I'm leaning toward TiVo proprietary. Right now it looks like the only real documentation is in the form of the mfs-utils source code. Should I start reverse engineering the source? Or is there some documentation (maybe a few data structures or a theory of operation)?

Media File System...Tivo proprietary. The mfs_* utils source is a good place to start. There's also some good stuff through some old threads here, and on alt.org.
