Im trying to find any tricks to increase the speed of transfering data from my tivo. So far I have maxed out on mfs_ftp at 500k per second :(
Ive done all the common hacks to improve the tivos speed with little/no difference in network speed. This leads me to believe its a problem with the nic hardware or my network configuration.

I have a CacheCard and I get around 1500 - 1700 KBps... I haven't done any tweaking of the CacheCard or it's settings...

1500 download speed, using mfs_ftp.tcl on the TIVO side and FLASH FXP on the PC side.
I don't use MFS much, but I fired it up to do that test download.

Shoot. Even with fxp I only get 500k per second. I wonder where the problem is?

Is your HUB/NIC limited to 10BaseT??

Use hdparm,
Put a Dtivo in standby mode
Turn a SA unit to an unused channel
See if temporarily turning off programs (including AV) that are running on your PC helps.

newbie: Ive adjusted the hdparms, installed 512mb into the cachecard, killed the ideturbo module, tuned to a channel with no signal, installed 7200rpm drives with 8mb buffer, disabled the firewall on the pc, put the tivo in standby, used the latest version of mfs_ftp, adjusted the PC's mtu to 1270, changed the priority of the ftp application on the tivo, etc...

there was a patch to mfs_ftp that vastly improved my speeds (from something like 200KB/sec to 2.5MB/sec).

if you haven't done that...do it.

I wanted to update everyone that I am now able to get almost exactly 1MB/s on my S1 Tivo while a MODE0 recording is in progress! I can't be sure which modification made the difference but the speed is quite noticeable. Screenshot from FlashFXP

Here is the thread where I covered the performance tweaks that led to this speed http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=360675
