Finally hacked my HR10-250--not all the way yet, but I am logging into it via serial bash...

I've checked around, but I can't seem to find any decent text editors (pico, joe, etc) compiled for MIPS. :o

Can someone either:

a) point me to a link where I can download one of these (compiled)

or

b) point me in the right direction as far as setting up cross-compiler to compile for MIPS. (I've got cygwin running on my XP box with gcc, if that helps... But I've no clue how to make it compile for MIPS)

PS. I've done a lot of development for DOS/Win mostly using MS tools, but I am just starting with linux. Please take it easy on me. :)

Take a look in the files section. The pico clone is there.

Try this thread (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38805) for your editor.

Jamie has some great scripts (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46361) for setting up the toolchain and even building a kernel. You can ignore the kernel script and just use the compiler build script. Couldn't be simpler.

You can get joe compiled for MIPs at http://tivoutils.sourceforge.net/

All rise, mikekehrli is in the house. ;) I see you found the forum I was talking about yesterday. I was gonna email you, but it looks like you beat me to it.

I used Ironman's guide to hack my HR10-250 and it worked pretty well:
http://www.imbetterthanyou.com/hr10-250/

Unfortunately, a lot of links in his guide are broken, but almost everything can be downloaded from the site that you mentioned (http://tivoutils.sourceforge.net)

The only thing that's different is "series 2 binaries for mfs_ftp" is no longer available. I used unified mfs tools:
http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39487

Haven't tested if it works yet--I should be getting my USB/Ether adapter today.

Anyway, I will still drop you an email once I get around to it.
