Why was my post deleted?

Nothing is stealing my address. I gave up on the PTVNet software, it just doesn't work.

Manually modified my disk and I just disable the ipnet tables after 60 seconds and everything works fine. seems I wasted my money on the PTVNet Software.

I purchased the InstantCake and PTVNet for HDVR2 6.2 last week. I installed as instructed following the prompts. When I boot up everything seems to come up fine and I can telnet in without issue. Here comes the problem, After about 60 seconds my telnet connection is disconnected and I can only ping the box, but cannot telnet or ftp any longer.

sounds like everything worked as it should have - now you have to troubleshoot your network - something else is stealing your IP address, or your router is keeping it from holding onto its dhcp-assigned ip address. OR, you have a bad cable, or a piece of bad hardware. best recommendation is to be analytical in doing your troubleshooting - unplug everything and eliminate as many variables as possible - make no assumptions - test everything...

The fact is there was no network issue, The PTVNet CD did not work. I could still ping the TiVo just telnet and ftp were disabled after myworld came up. I used ethereal and verified the TiVo was on the network by its MAC address in the packet trace while I was pinging the TiVo.

I tried the PTVNet CD 3 times before giving up.

I restored my working original image 4.0.1b, did a slice upgrade to 6.2, copied the killinitrd kernel, copied my hacks, loaded netfilter.disable 60 seconds after myworld came up and everything works fine.

It was a waste of money to buy the PTVNet CD for the HDVR2 6.2 since it did not work as advertised.

And *that* is specifically why your post was deleted from the Official PTVnet Support Thread (http://www.dvrplayground.com/forum/thread/12068/?page=7&); that thread is a place to review and discuss your problems getting the product to work, not to admit defeat, blame us for your failure and tell everyone else its a waste of money.

Just because you were unable to get the product to work doesn't mean that it doesn't work -- its been available for over one year - don't you think by now if it *didn't work* folks would be onto that by now?

Does that mean its perfect or that folks don't have trouble with it from time to time? No - that is what the official support thread is for; not for bashing, complaining or attempting to scare away folks looking to solve their problems.

I tried to get support before posting the post you deleted, instead you replied:

Everything was not working as it should have and nothing was stealing my IP address as confirmed by mac address source & destination packets using ethereal packet traces while pinging the DTiVo prior to requesting support.

The same ip address, router, hardware, everything else works if I manually do the work and not rely on the PTVNet CD to do it for me with its guided setup.

Food for Thought.
Just because some people may understand what you say, does not mean what you say is right. Everyone's perception of the written word is different and just because they do not understand it the way you meant it, does not make you righteous and them an *****. Well written documentation speaks for itself and does not need a lot of lip service to explain what you mean. Everyone could take a lesson in trying to understand how well they are perceived in describing the things that you do, than to belittle others for not understanding what your intended design was.

At the same time, to delete any negative informatoin is no better than censorship, where dissension is forwned upon. If peole are having issues, and you say that teh forum wil post responses, tehn do so - I have seen questions on teh dvrplayground that were not answerd (mine included), and have had issues as well - while I will not post negative comments on a site wehre the moeerator will just delete them, hwo can one say yoru product works when anythig negative or users who could not get it to work are never heard?
