Perhaps this has been mentioned a few times but I am having some problems. I have a Tivo and Tivo to Go on my PC. I have pulled down a few shows and want to change their .tivo format to another so I can use another program to view them or send them to a friend via DVD.

I have Windows XP. I downloaded eTivo and did play with it. I do not want to transfer shows physically on my Tivo from the PC. I do not want to watch TV shows stored on my PC from my Tivo.

I just want to re-encode (or convert) the .tivo files to a mpg format.

Trying eTivo was problematic. It wanted to see my Tivo and did but I only need it to see my directory where the shows are stored on my hard disk. I set this up but cannot get anything to convert.

Am getting some http error: Failed: Trying to access file through HTTP (if your web-server is p....

Perhaps I am doing something wrong (obviously) or there is a much simpler way to re-encode the .tivo files.

Thank you for your patience.
Sincerely
Peter

Most of the tools around here require a hacked Tivo unit, with the video encryption disabled (i.e. superpatched).

If you're using Tivo-To-Go, you're likely using a stock, unmodified unit. Tivo-to-Go is notoriously slow to transfer. Plus you'll need to pull the MPEG2 video out of the .tivo wrapper. Something like directshow dump. I'd recommend checking out this linked FAQ page (http://www.zatznotfunny.com/ttg.htm) for more info. You'll still need something to author a DVD disk from the freed file.

Even better, hack your Tivo and use things like TyTool to pull and author disks right away. At least it will be faster to download your shows.

Yes, like Narf54321 said, you may want to hack your tivo and superpatch it so that you do not have to worry about encryption at all (Just use TyTools to download unencrypted shows as .ty or .mpg files with download speed around 1.78 MB/s from Tivo to PC).

But if it is the existing encrypted shows that you want to decrypt/archive on DVD then you have following choices.
1) directshowdump (http://prish.com/etivo/tbr.htm) (as Narf54321 said) along with TivoToGo (no Tivo hacking involved) but very slow Tivo to PC transfer speeds and then you have to do the dump thing.
2) hack your tivo and use in-place decryption (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48985) (a pretty involved exercise, which I am yet to do it and hesitant to do this right now).
