Hi Gang

Been a while since I have been here, everything has been working ok, reason for not being here. Problem>>>Went to use my Temp pro/tytools the other day, no work.

I got into where you refresh and have the list of programs come up, I selected one and clicked on "get" and this message came up, "Data socket connect failed". Like I said I have been using temp pro and tytool 9r18, and has been working great until now.

I tried using the temppro and the newer 10r 3 exe and was having trouple with it, it would skip right over the editing section, and so I could not finish it.

Any help will certinly be appreciated, with both or either problem.

I think I ran into this myself awhile back... Trying to remember how I fixed it.

I'd suggest making sure your telnet process isn't tied up on port 23.

If you're using Windows XP then open TyTool for access on the Windows Firewall (or turn off the firewall).

The easiest way to check the telnet port is probably just open a command-window and telnet into the tivo. If you get in, then great. Type logout on the Tivo to cleanly close the connection. (I run tnlited on port 23 and another on port 30 as a kind of backdoor in case the Tivo jams up or TyTool freaks out).

Hi Narf

Ya I don't have any problem getting ito the menu, but as soon as I select a program, and click on "get" That is when I get that Data Socket message.

Thanks..............Gunny

Hi gang

I hope you are not going to let me hang here, with out answering my question. More then one NIC.????? I have an idea of what you are asking, but not sure that is why I asked to be sure. Are you referring to a network card.????

If this is the question, no there is only one connected to this computer. To my Tivo. I am in earnest about wanting to get this fixed, so I would appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks...........Gunny

I was just reading in another thread about changes to the tystream format in the newer system software. I hope that isn't what you are running into.

Anyway, I remember having to update tserver and NowShowing.tcl on my system, but that is more for getting the actual list. "Data Socket error" sounds like a networking issue between the Tivo and PC. At this point, just for testing, turn OFF the WinXP firewall completely to see if anything works. Also, just as a side note possibly not even related is this thread about network/USB problems because of a missing /dev/null (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50911) inode.

NIC = Network Interface Card

If you have more than one NIC (which does not appear to be the case) you need to select the proper network in the Tytool interface. If you only have one NIC, it doesn't apply.

OK, I'm not sure where Gunny went but it seems like we're at the troubleshooting point where we need to divide and isolate the problem.

Here are a few things I suggest.
1. Check the logs for weird stuff.
2. Hook the PC directly to the Tivo's ethernet (via Crossover link) and see if the problem persists.
3. Try TyTools from a different computer/laptop.

We need to decide if the problem is with the PC, the Tivo, or perhaps even his local hub/switch (not as likely).
