I've got a Hughes DVR-40 (6.2) and a Hughes HR10-250 (6.3a). I've browsed many threads and several forums and found that I don't understand what I'm supposed to do to network my D*Tivos with my PC via Wifi. I get the impression its possible to extract video from a D*Tivo for use on my PC (editing, etc), but is it possible for my D*Tivos to play video files directly from my PC's hard drive over my wireless network, or play videos from each other's hard drives? (I understand the DVR-40 won't be able to play HD content). This would freaking kick a$$, but I don't have a clue where to start and don't know what all the terms mean I see flying around, like zipper, etc.
Where can a newbie fresh off the boat learn this stuff? Do I have to dance naked under the full moon with a frozen chicken to appease the Linux God, or is there a FAQ or detailed instructions I can read? I'd really like to learn this stuff. Thanks!

The frozen chicken won't help; I heard of one fellow that became a changed man after dancing the Funky Chicken, naked, under a full moon, on Fire Island. But that may be hearsay. And it has nothing to do with a DirecTiVo.
I'd start with Captain Video's TiVo Hacking 101 (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37058). If nothing else, it's warmer than the alternatives.

Ooooo... WiFi is going to be tricky. I've read a few older threads, most of them talk about using a NetGear FA120 (if those are still around anywhere) or other USB-Ethernet dongle thingie, and then attach a wifi hotspot attachment to the dongle for wireless. Tivo sells an 802.11g thingie nowadays, but I don't think DirecTivos don't have the driver.
You'll need to hack the box (see killhdinitrd) and then superpatch to get the home media option stuff running on both boxes.

You'll need to hack the box (see killhdinitrd) and then superpatch to get the home media option stuff running on both boxes. So as to not get a newbie's hopes up, there is no HMO, nor MRV specifically, available for the HR10-250, so there won't be any transferring shows between units, at least not via the Tivo UI (see mfs_ftp as an alternative).
As far as serving shows up from your PC, you can do so to your 6.2 system, once it has been superpatched, using tivoserver.

Fire Island???? I wouldn't go near there with a ten foot health card. Just get the cold chills thinking about what hangs out there full moon or not!

Thanks for all the info. At least I have an idea where to start. I'm looking forward to any future mods for the HR10-250, as well.

Fire Island gets a bad rap from a very small, isolated part of the island. We have been going there for years with are kids since they were very small.
Try this image instead..no cars; everyone walking or riding bikes; kids able to walk or ride anywhere safely without parents; uncrowded beaches; three block walk between beach on bay or beach on ocean; sailing, clamming, and great sunsets.
