My HR10-250 has gotten extremely unresponsive lately. I did a clear of the thumbs and suggestions last night. Surprisingly things got worse today after that. Now it is so bad that video stutters to the point where it is unwatchable and its also extremely slow to respond to any remote commands. Is it possible its just the hard drive? I have a replacement on the way. I really didn't want to give up that box because it was unhacked and I wanted to hack it and get some video (1st NFL game I attended) that I had on it.

did your new disk clean things up?
i am having the same problem with mine. i've seen similar before with all the other dtivos i've owned, and its always been the hard disk. but i pulled my disk out, ran SMART tests on it, looked at the SMART variables, and finally read out the entire disk using dd and everything seems fine.
it started the other night with video stutters. i rebooted the box and it got worse... now i cant even see the now playing screen. the disk is 400GB and is about 75% full.

for anyone playing along at home, it was the disk... even though it seemed okay, and the SMART registers seemed reasonable, a new disk has fixed everything up. i guess the old disk was having seek errors or something.

At least when my drive was dying it gave me some warning with "clickity click" noises and I was able to copy the image before it died.

yeah i managed to pull off all the shows that i wanted to save before installing the new disk. seagate has pretty good warrantees on their disks, so they will be sending me a new one. if i had been patient i could have waited to recieve the replacement and then just copied the image, but instead i just made a new disk...
