Looking to make permanent the clock and timer that appears in the lower right corner of the screen when one enters S-P-S-9-S. It'd be nice to make this possible on 6.3a, 6.2, and 4.01b.
I've searched all over for how to make this permanent but didn't find it. I know that one presses S-P-S-9-S to enable the clock and the timer, but when the unit reboots, one has to re-enter the code.
Was this posted somewhere, maybe using different terminology? Maybe that's why I couldn't find it.

There is no permanent hack available for this option. It would require a patch to tivoapp that has yet to be determined. I just set up a macro on my universal remote and can restore it at the touch of a single button.

Well, some of us don't have these million dollar "universal" remotes that never are "universal" to begin with. :p

P.S. Someone mentioned that hackman has the option to make the clock and timer start at reboot every time. I don't use hackman, so I wonder if there's anything in there than can be made to work on other hacked units.

There are a wide number of universal remotes out there that can do what I'm telling you and they don't cost an arm and a leg (and they are truly universal). You need one with learning capability so you can teach it the key presses to enable the clock. I'm using a Home Theater Master MX-700 remote. Many of the Harmony remotes will work as will several others. Check out remotecentral.com for everything you want to know about universal remotes.

Also check out the JP1 (http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/) project. I can program my $20 radio shack remote with macros and even lighting control commands.
As for the clock, you could set up a cron job to get the current time and use out2osd to display it every few minutes or continuously anywhere on the screen. You might be able to customize the osd settings to make it look decent.

It may be kind of sad, but I use the "lack of a clock" as indication that the TiVo rebooted.
(This is usually my first indication that it's time to update.)

I know what you mean. Whenever I see the clock gone, I realize the unit has since rebooted.
