This is a continuation to a question I asked earlier...

Can a hacked/patched Series2 DirecTivo share/MRV video with a hacked/patched Series2 StandAlone Tivo?

I ask because I live in a rural area where only two local Over-The-Air stations broadcast in digital and none of my local stations are available via DirecTV. None of the analog stations will grant me satellite feed wavers.

So, I am thinking of adding one or two Series2 StandAlone Tivos to record my local analog Over-The-Air stations. But I only want to do this if the SA units can share video with the DTivo units.

Yes, you can.

By sharing videos, I assume you mean hack so that Multi-Room Viewing (MRV) works between the standalone and DTV units. I should point out that while you can hack he standalone TCD240 units via software, the newer TCD540 and TCD649 currently require a PROM mod to do any hacking.

Also, apparently the HR10-250 high-def unit (which is technically a series 2) does not have the MRV component at all. You can most likely use mfs_ftp to upload videofiles from the standalone unit(s) but not from a menu.

Another question, if you buy a NEW Dual Tuner S2 Tivo for cable, can you use MRV to a Directv box with MRV enabled?

So I would assume the recording are encrypted still since it is not hacked.

but since the S2 DT Standalone has MRV functionality to start, will it work?

I would hate to find out that the Encryption on a standalone cannot be un-encrypted for viewing on a Superpatched Directivo.

has anyone done that? Must the Standalone be hacked?

Well, then, perhaps I shouldn't tell you...

MRV to/from a hacked DTiVo works only if the other TiVo is also hacked with encryption disabled. Encrypted programs transferred can't be decrypted without the proper keys that are available only to subbed standalone TiVos.

Thanks. thats what I was wondering. So there are keys that probably are only issued to the same Tivos on your account. (maybe not in the fashion I stated, but somehow:) )

I knew I was missing something in my thought process.
