I've been following the 6.3 upgrade traffic as best I can (which definitely has it's limits; when I read "re-compile," I know I'm in over my head), just curious about the general opinion at this point.

Is the 6.3x upgrade for HR10-250's considered stable at this point (my guess is no, based on all the reported audio/reboot issues)?

What's the general impact for hacked DTivos? I've read that TyTool is largely broken, for instance.

What's the upside to the upgrade? Speaking for myself, faster menus would be very welcome, but not at the price of losing my hacked extractable goodness. I have updates blocked on my system, and I ain't changing that until football season is over, at the earliest.

Thanks, all apologies if this veers too far off into newbie/STFF territory...

Oddly enough it seems to me the audio/reboot issues have gotten better lately. Or maybe I've just grown used to them... :)

Faster guide, Much faster Season Pass additions / changes.

More audio dropouts on Over-The-Air stations, Crashes when signal meter is left on screen for more than 10-15 minutes, Recordings skipped or stopped early when hard drive is nearly full, More sensitive to overheating, Still lose channel logos after doing a Clear & Delete All, Still no MultiRoomViewing hack possible.

6.3a is a mixed bag. Hopefully DirecTV will address some of these issues in a 6.3b or 6.3c update.

For 6.3a I installed the latest version of TivoWebPlus, 1.3.1. Also, for extraction, I changed to extracting .ty files and processing them with hdemux and ffmeg. I also switched to the newer 7.2.2-oth-k1 kernel. I don't insert programs back into the tivo, and I haven't come close to having a full hard disk yet. After reading everything here I was apprehensive about 6.3a. However, I haven't noticed any new problems with 6.3a that I didn't have with 3.1.5f, and the speed improvement is very noticeable at times. Also, extraction no longer seems to slow down my tivo like it used to. From my experience, I'd recommend giving 6.3a a try.
