When I extract the TY file via tytool and then convert to mpg via tytompg I get a 'stutter' where its almost like the video speeds up or hickups for just a second ever few seconds.

The strange part is that it gets better, and eventually goes away, or gets a lot better as you watch the show. 15+ minutes into the show it's more or less gone. This isn't a hard fast time. A previous recording did this for the first 5min or so.

The first one that did this was from HDNet
The second one was from OTA ABC

Any idea how to fix this? I've tried both .16 and .17 of tytompg with similar results

Is tytompg spitting out any errors?

You might try chopping the file down to just a small piece around where you see some errors (using tychopper) then run it through tytompg with the -dtr option. That will output a whole lot of information.

Try this tool. It requires java to be installed and a little setup, but it works well with HD, especially from an HR10-250.

1. Make sure java 1.4.2 or better is installed
2. Extract the .zip
3. Set the "ui.downloads" property in the extracted applications.properties. Remember to use \\ instead of \ (it's a java thing)
4. Doubleclick ui.cmd
5. Click the Convert button.

The output file will be in wherever you specified in ui.downloads
