I haven't been on this forum for a while so please forgive me if this topic has been discussed over and over.

Anyone know what happens to all of the MPEG2 boxes when DirecTv goes to MPEG4 this year? Obviously anyone with a leased box gets one, but how about us that own them? I can't even fathom parting with my SDDVR80 after the countless hours I have put into "improving" it:D . I am also waiting to see what happens before I invest $800 bucks in a HD Tivo. Any idea how "hackable" these units are?

The HD MPEG2 will be around for a while, most likely through the end of the year. The SD MPEG2 channels will be around for much longer, much longer.Your SD-DVR80 is going to be usable for a couple more years.

So far the hackablity on the HR20 seems rather low.
