software 6.2a Worked fine until I rebooted after running set_mrv_name. I used old (wrong) version first. Netgear FA120, using backported drivers. Wonder if I corrupted something. Log excerpt follows.

/dev/hda9 was not cleanly unmounted, check forced.

That's only a partial log, and looks normal.

I didn't think
usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x846/0x1040) is not claimed by any active driver

was normal. Adapter lights up but I can't connect. Is there anything else I should be looking for in the log? I'll reboot tonight and capture the entire log.

I didn't thinkusb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x846/0x1040) is not claimed by any active driverwas normal. It is. It has to do with the order the drivers are loaded (host controller first, then network drivers).

I hate it when posters don't follow up. I don't think this will help anyone else but Jamie's assurance that my drivers were loaded properly caused me to look elsewhere. I rebooted my tivo, my router and checked my cat5 cables.

Works fine now. Weird that something happened right after I ran some scripts and re-booted.

Thanks Jamie, I was sure I did something wrong with my unit and would have spent hours reloading drivers etc.

Jaime-- I have a similar problem as Newbie-- my linksys usb200m shows green lights, but I can't connect by telnet. I'm attempting to ethernet the tivo series 2 back to my router, so far, no luck. All the other hacks/enhancements are working. Thanks.

All the other hacks/enhancements are working. Thanks.Network problems are easiest to debug from a serial console.

Here's the main things to check: Make sure you've configured the network with an IP address, netmask, gateway, etc. Do this either from the tivo UI (for 6.3, 7.x and 8.x) or with the netconfig.tcl script (for 6.2). Make sure you are running the telnet daemon (tnlited). Make sure you have the firewall turned off on the tivo.
If all else fails, post the serial console log.

Jaime--

Here's what I get when I try to set the netconfig--

bash-2.02# tivosh network.tcl
EXT2-fs warning: mounting unchecked fs, running e2fsck is recommended
bash-2.02#

And here's what happens when I try to set the mrv name--

bash-2.02# tivosh set_mrv_name_67.tcl
Please specify a name for this tivo
bash-2.02#

Finally, when I try to run the usbmap under the hacks directory--

bash-2.02# tivosh usbmap_script.sh
invalid command name "/device"
while executing
"/device ax8817x/a\
product 13b1 0018 Linksys USB200MV2"
(file "usbmap_script.sh" line 2)
bash-2.02#

I get the feeling I've got something either in conflict, or simply not working in my file system.

Thanks, paxcam

I get the feeling you're just not executing the commands correctly.

For network.tcl it requires some arguments like:
tivosh network.tcl IPaddress Gateway yes(if_wireless) SSID

for set_mrv_name, you're missing the name like:
tivosh set_mrv_name_67.tcl "MyTivoName"

Lastly, for usbmap_script.sh, I don't know what it is but it shouldn't be invoked with tivosh. Either:
sh usbmap_script.sh
or
./usbmap_script.sh

First off, the format for netconfig.tcl is:

netconfig.tcl 192.168.1.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1

Second, the format for set_mrv_name_67.tcl is:

set_mrv_name.tcl Tivo if the name has a space in it be sure to enclose it in quotes "Tivo Den".

I would concentrate on getting the network running and worry about the other stuff later.

"Just my humble opinion"

Many thanks-- now for my next question-- my router is set to
ip 10.150.10.1/255.255.255.0 with a range of 10.150.10.100~199.

I should set the tivo in my range, yes? Or, should I use the
standard 192.168.1.1?

BTW, I have a network.tcl file, but not a netconfig.tcl that I can find.

Thanks again.

Maybe this is piling on...

I've got an HR10-250. Went straight from 3.1.5f to 6.3c to get the DST update today. I'm using a FA-120 usb Ethernet adapter. Worked great under 3.1.5f. Now I get a power LED, but no link.

Didn't want to stick the whole log in the post, so it can be found here (http://www.duckpins.com/TerpEE93/boot-log.txt).

I appreciate your not posting the boot log, usually I suggest attaching it to the post; your way works fine also.

Unfortunately, that still leaves me with a lot of questions. What changes did you make as part of the upgrade? Did you disable the firewall, if so how? How are you setting the IP address? The message usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x846/0x1040) is not claimed by any active driver. is normal.

There are significant differences in the way networking is implemented in in 3.1.5x and 6.3x. It might be a good idea to scan the "At Last! An upgrade..." thread in the Series 2 support forum.

Alright, I'm convinced now that the "usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x846/0x1040) is not claimed by any active driver" message is normal. Here's what I found...

1. I had a bad usbnet.o installed in /platform/lib/modules. Not sure where it came from now, but it was very small (~20k). I replaced it with the file from the 2.4.20 kernel package, and that gave me the eth0 device again.

2. Then second problem was hardware...I have a Ethernet over power bridge that I plug my FA-120 into. I pulled it form the wall and re-installed it, and that brought back my link light.

So in short, two bonehead errors on my part. I can network my Tivo again!
