View Full Version : Upgrade DirecTivo for Daylight Savings Time?

I got an automated phone call today from DirecTV or Tivo (not sure which), saying that I need to make sure that my Tivo boxes call in before the DST change this weekend. The trouble is, all three of my DirecTivos have been hacked, and are no longer connected to the phone line.
Do I need to force an upgrade to a newer version of the Tivo app? Or will the time change be taken care of via satellite download?
Thanks,
Tom

There are dozens of posts on this topic at numerous forums. The bottom line is that the update is only required if you plan on setting up any manual recordings during the extra four week period that extends the normal DST period. All season passes and recordings set up via the guide will still record correctly. If you're in a time zone west of the Eastern time zone you can simply change your time zone manually to the one just to the east of you. When the normal DST period resumes you can set it back to automatically detect DST. Repeat this process for the extra week at trhe end of DST and you'll be fine. If you're in the Eastern time zone just remember to compensate for the hour difference when setting up any manual recordings.
Repeat this process every year for as long as you own your hacked Tivo because your computer doesn't understand when daylight savings time is supposed to occur. Thanks Congress!

The new software is also suppose to handle upcoming changes to the DTV guide data. You may need the upgrade in the future. This board and TCF has several threads that list several procedures to upgrade hacked units without having to pull your drive.
Be careful if you have a large (over 120 gig) drive in a series 1 unit.

Thanks Congress!
I consider this DST change to be the best thing congress has done in my lifetime.

Captain Video,
Thanks for the clear and concise answer. I searched the forum, but didn't find anything that answered my question as completely as this.
Thanks,
Tom:)

Stupid question, but can you manually change the time (I'm in EST) for the next two weeks, then set it back?

You can if your unit allows it....
Mine doesn't have Atlantic time !
To set clock ahead hour open telenet and type

That fixed the on-screen clock - thanks! - but my to-do list is still showing all of the recordings at 1 hour early. Will those programs still record correctly?

I set the clock, but it reset an hour later, how can i change my timezone to EST-1 ? Would that work? I can live with DST being off, and setting manually twice a year..

Mine only took a few minutes before reseting to ST

Over and over and over again, if you do not upgrade the software you will have only two problems:
1. The displayed time will be off by one hour.
2. If you set it to do a manual recording from 7:28 to 8:02 it will NOT record the intended program.
All season passes, etc. will work properly. And both of these problems will be resolved once we reach the normal start of DST - April first, IIRC.
