Hi,

I used the slicer to upgrade from 6.2 to 6.2a and after a reboot I no longer have network connectivity. Here are the results of the slice upgrade as well as what I get from the serial connection on reboot. Any help or suggestions on getting the unit back online would be appreciated. This is on a hughes dvr 40 that was pvnet and instantcaked and is a 120 gig drive.

Slicer results:

Maybe you should ask for help over at TCF, after all you used pvnet, instantcake and slicer, all of which are their products.

Hi Labia,
Maybe I should. I didn't think it would matter as we are all in the same game here. I figured I would get my question out and see where I could get help from first. Thanks for nothing though.

I didn't realize there was discrimination in forums but I guess it finds its way into more aspects of life than meets the eye.

peace,

It's not really discrimination, and we aren't all in the same boat. We don't use Instantcake, PTVnet, and slicer because they are unnecessary. Rather than spend the money on those products, I choose to do something beneficial - like take my wife out to dinner. And as brilliant as most of us are, supporting a product we have never used is beyond MY abilities.

Hi Bill,

Thanks, I didn't know this forum didn't support the software I mentioned. I have used many hacks from this forum and most of them if not all worked great. I did however initially use the software I mentioned above for my base or starting point. I had no idea there was a "one is better than the other" or "one is cheaper than the other" issue going on. I used dvrupgrade software because when I first searched for dvr upgrades the howto page I found only mentioned dvrupgrade an no other. I am sure the guys over at dvrplayground will help me out and it is a shame you people over here are so limited to that zipper thing. I looked at it and it seemed bogus in comparison to how simple instantcake was. Then again I am just a noob so what do I know.

What I would like to know is where the hell you take your wife to dinner for a lousy $20. It was the best $20 I ever spent.

peace,

PS: I will not ask any other questions in this forum again. I may post back to this one but will never start another thread here.

Later...

Instantcake is $20, IIRC, PTVnet and Slicer are also $20 each. For $60 we have a wide range of choices.

ok, ok so it cost me about 60 bucks and yea i guess you could have dinner at a cheap place but I didn't know there were alternatives at the time.

I at one time ran a forum called nukesupport.com which was for php-nuke and people would post questions regarding postnuke which was the competition. I use to try to help best I could so did all of the users at the site. I guess it is just a bit more cut throat when it comes to dvr hacking. I do understand if you have never used the software it might be hard to help so I guess this forum is not the place for my question but again I was completely unaware. I thought you guys were all well versed dvr hackers and knew it all about all methods of hacking.

I have been wrong before so its no big deal. There a lot of good things I have found here in this forum so I will continue to visit but I will try to keep my instantcake questions to myself. By the way I thought tivocommunity.com was for other hacks and not dvrupgrade stuff. labia sugested I post there but will they help me or not. I have posted to dvrplayground it just doesn't seem to get much traffic so that was why I resorted to this site in the first place.

If your DVR does not install the new software, the DVR will continue to automatically record your Season Pass™ programs and WishList® searches at the correct airtimes without incident

I just modified the manual recordings one hour earlier and thats it..

3 more weeks and my tivo shoud be all set without screw the hacks.

You STILL don't get it. PTVupgrade isn't the competition; heck they're even a site sponsor. They sell and support a set of products which make it easy for dummies to hack a TiVo. Those products are NEITHER the least expensive NOR the best way to hack a TiVo, but a dummy has to start somewhere.

My only problem is when those dummies can't find the correct support forum, then compound their folly by insisting we must support an expensive, inferior product.

I will make you an offer, though. Send me the $60 to buy the products, I'll use them, then answer your questions. Heck, make it $40, I don't need Instantcake.

Hi Bill,

I think I am going to start over and use some of the things I found on the Tivo Community forum site. I just got a kick out of the first response to my thread and love to antagonize to get others going. I really could give a shit. I don't have a wife that is ready to chop my head off because she lost her soap oprea shows. I just might loose a few good pornos...and The Unit but I will live.

I'll admit I may be a dummy when it comes to dvr hacking but I am a learnin.

Thanks for setting me straight though.

Mentally challenged huh? Look even you had a few mintues to get in on this. I am all set. I redid the drive with my INSTANT CAKE cd and PTVNET disk and then I ran the patch I found over at TCF to upgrade 6.2 to 6.2a. I have already re-added the bufferhack and the xm record hack and I am now moving on to the TWP 2.0 as well as the new hackman mod. Not bad for a mentally challenged newbie huh.

Later guys I hope you all enjoyed my amusing post.

I'm with PlainBill on this one.

Heck, I hacked my Philips DSR704 without using any of their products. I used free products that can not be mentioned here, unfortunately.

I'm with Bill on this one. There are other alternatives out there. But some companies don't want people to know about them.

This reminds me of Microsoft...

Comparing the gentlemen who created the 'Z' product (or the gentlemen at PTVUpgrade) to Microsoft is a little like comparing a honeybee to a vulture....

For what it's worth, 'Z' has the same limitation as the PTVupgrade products. It allows a dummy to create a hacked system he is unable to maintain. And given the number of them who come here for support, 'dummy' is an apt description.

Shit. I thought the title of this thread was what I was looking for since it is exactly my problem (6.2 to 6.2a upgrade worked but now the nic isn't working). I didn't expect to see a big pissing match... I'll see if there's another search hit that helps...

I think you've got us confused with the Tivo Social Club (a.k.a. Tivo Community Forum). This forum is for the hobbyist that actually likes to hack their own Tivos, not use some automated script to do the work for them. The software you mentioned contains hacks that most of us install manually. Why? Because it's relatively simple to do and we see no reason to pay someone $20 for stuff that's free.

Did I mention that many of the hacks contained in the software you paid for was developed by the rank and file here? The actual scripts used to install them on the PTVNet CD and others were developed by DVRUpgrade, which is why you should be seeking help from them and not us. Had you installed the hacks yourself then we'd be more than happy to help.

Had you actually read the disclaimer that comes with "that zipper thing" you'd have seen that the authors specifically request that it not be mentioned here or you run the risk of being vilified for doing so. You sort of left yourself wide open for that one, Sport. That software is most definitely not supported or even discussed here.
