Possible to mfs_backup a drive without pulling?

I am curious if anyone has been able to do a mfs_backup without pulling the drive. Perhaps by killing all of the Tivo processes, except of course for ftp and Telnet. I was going to play with this, but could not even find a mips version of mfs_backup.

Suggestion: Pull the drive. I'd suggest doing it your way would be a little like trying to fill the gas tank on a car through a soda straw.
