Dtivo and other software versions

I am wondering if anyone has tried to put 7.x or 8.x on a series 2 Dtivo. Not to get the sat tuner working, but rather just to use the HME feature...

This post (http://dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45131&highlight=7.x+dtivo) would be a good start. I haven't seen any attempts at 8.1, but I thought I remember reading about MFS differences (dtivo portions of MFS stripped out?).
