Tivo not taking 8.1a update

My tivo seems to be having problems with the 8.1a update. It downloads it and then when it restarts it says applying software update but when it comes up its still at the previous version. This is probably related to problems i had hacking the 8.1 version related to getting the nic to work. I followed the procedure outlined in a different thread to copy the drivers from the 7.x kernel.

Can someone suggest, how I can debug this or get it to take the update?

Is it possible that you modified your config files to disable the application of patches?

I have seen something like this happen in the past when the slice files in MFS somehow got corrupted. I'd suggest you go through the usual manual slice upgrade process (edit installSw.itcl to comment out the reboot, run it, copy hacks to new root, etc, etc) and report any errors you see here.
