I have 2 S2 tivos. I want to know what happens when you stop paying for service for one of them. I hear you get a reminder when it boots, and you definitely won't get program info or upgrades, but I want to know if I can still connect to the other Tivo in my house and transfer shows?

When I discontinue service, does Tivo.com tell my device to lock down in any way? What woudl happen if I restricted the device's IP address from accessing the internet before I end service? Would that make a difference?

My personal experience has been that once you deactivate service on a device, the unit will disable MRV and other features upon the next call.

Does anyone have experience with a tivo that has not been allowed to connect to tivo.com for an extended period of time? Will MRV stop when the programming guide empties out (2 wks)?

Your TiVo has a "ticket" that gets renewed each time it calls in. When that ticket expires, your TiVo unit is fairly useless until the next call home.
