I'm a bit lost on this one. I've been trying to search the forums with no luck.
I just hacked my HR10-250 using InstantCake and PTVnetHD. Everything went smoothly until I tried to record something. It pops up a screen that says Final Setup Steps, then explains that I need to connect a phoneline to make a testcall before I can use my Tivo features. How do I get around this without letting the unit call out?
Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure since I have no use for it, but I believe the only way to get around that is hack it and run fakecall.tcl.

I've tried running fakecall.tcl and rebooting, and that hasn't worked

Congratulations!!! You have spent $40 for software you didn't need and have a non-working system to show for it!! PT Barnum spoke highly of you.
There have been reports that level 2 CSRs at DirecTV can issue a command to bypass this problem. Provided you can find a level 1 csr who will refer the call upward.

You've just stumbled on the number 1 newbie mistake. You need to complete guided setup and let your Tivo make the first two initial calls before you start hacking it. Your Tivo can't call out and you won't be able to record until it does. Your best bet would simply be to reinstall a clean backup image using your Instantcake CD, let it dial out, and THEN run the PTVnetHD disc on it. I'm not exactly sure why you thought you needed Instantcake since all that does is reinstall the Tivo image that's already on the drive, unless you're upgrading to a different drive. At least you have a backup image you can restore.
In the future, if you have a problem regarding products you purchased from PTVUpgrade (or whatever they call themselves these days) you need to go back to them for support. They have their own support forums for questions such as these. They don't pay us to support their products for them.

What about this script? It worked on my hacked S2.5 box...

Never tried it, but you're certainly more than welciome to give it a shot and let us know how it went. Based on the description it looks like that script just takes you from the initial screen to Tivo central without having to run guided setup. It doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have to make the initial phone calls since that is in addition to the guided setup routine that is being bypassed. Correct me if I'm wrong but your S2.5 box probably never had the fakecall.tcl hack installed, did it? Yours will always be able to dial out, whereas the OP has a box that won't.

Kinda sorta... I had to completely re-image the system and had to re-install everything and go through guided setup again a couple of weeks ago due to a failed drive.
Originally, I never did do an initial call when my box was installed due to the fact that I was cell phone only, waiting for a land line connection to be installed and the installer was in a hurry and called up directv and had it activated anyway... I then subsequently found dealdatabase and canceled my land line installation :)
