I have an HR10-250 that I had previously upgraded to 500GB. It was on 6.3c. The drive started failing (freezing picture and {Uncorrectable Error} messages). I used the MFSLive CD to copy the old 500GB drive to a new 500GB drive using the following command:
backup -qTao - /dev/hdc | restore -s 127 -zpi - /dev/hdd (Actually, I believe I used backup -qTao - /dev/hdc | restore -s 128 -r 4 -zpi - /dev/hdd, but I din't write it down so I don't remember for sure)
The uncorrectable errors were reported, but the process completed. The Tivo boots fine with the new disk, but it randomly reboots or freezes quite often. So I thought maybe some of the data in the boot partition on the old disk had been corrupted, causing the same problems once it was copied to the new disk. Since I had the 6.3b slices handy, I dbload'd and installed them. I still have the same rebooting and freezing problem from 6.3b partition. Any ideas on what to try next? Logs that my be helpful in isolating the problem? I really want to save my existing recordings.

Well, I ran Spinrite Level 4 on the old disk. It found a couple unrecoverable sectors. When it was done, I used the MFSLive CD again and the command:
backup -qTao - /dev/hdc | restore -s 250 -zi - /dev/hdb
It has now been up for over a day without freezing or rebooting, so I am hopeful that the problem is fixed.

Thanks for the followup. Although you found your own solution, sharing it helps. I'm going to try it with a similar problem.
