I can't find too much that refers to this in the forums (did a search on "canary"), but I had my DTivo reboot itself while watching a movie just now. Hadn't hit any buttons, nothing was connected on the network like telnet or ftp, and no cron jobs were running at the time. The only "event" I can see happening was it was going to record a program at 10:30pm (what shows up as 3:30am on the 28th in the logs).
Here are the only items in my log files from around the time it rebooted that seem relevant:
