View Full Version : Sluggish remote response

Just picked up a 2nd hand DirectTivo RCA-S2 - 40hr model to practice hacking before tearing into our primary. The first thing I noticed when I powered up was the remote control response was really, really slow. I think it's correct to say that all keypresses eventually registered (it's not like it was missing any) but the delay was so bad as to make the forward search at fast speed unusable.

I'd hoped it was due to the trash the previous owner recorded or the large number of season passed items. But I've now hacked the system....have a new drive in place. The sluggishness does _not seem to be as bad .as before the hack but still pretty much unusable for the familiar 3 quick clicks to high speed forward and the instant stop i'm accustomed to with my Hughs unit.

So I don't think this is a software issue....I've tried my Hughs remote (fresh batteries) - same behavior. The exterior of the unit's sensor seems clean...i'm about ready to do what it takes to get to the underside of that front panel (bravery due to non-primary Tivo) but I'm wondering what others have encountered like this.

I've noticed that the thin ribbon panel connecting the front side of the system board to the front panel itself is creased as if it'd been folded over. I don't detect scratches or tears in that cable.

Is that a replaceable item?

thx
