Hello,

I've been reading around, and it seems that I need to upgrade (or should) to 6.2 from 3.1.1c. I originally used Sleepers ISO to hack 3.1.1c and got everything to work on my Tivo. However, that drive is now dying and I've replaced it with the original drive containing the 3.1.1c software unhacked.

I've read that the update to 6.2 comes either via the satelite or the phone line. However, I don't have a phone line. So, I took it to friends house, tried forcing the call, leaving it over night, etc. to get it to upgrade. The thing won't upgrade. What do I need to do? Called DirecTV and they were even less helpful.

My plan was to get the original drive upgraded to 6.2a via the normal method, copy that to a new drive via MFS tools and work on the killinitrhd hack as spelled out in Tivo Hacking 103. Well, I'm stuck at step one.

Does the upgrade come over the phone line? I've read here that it comes over the dish and then needs a call to perform the update. True? Once I get the update I think I can handle it from there.

Thanks.

There are several options. The way you are trying (forcing a call) SHOULD work. A second option would be to hack it at 3.1.1c and load the 6.2 slices. A third option would be to start with AlphaWolf's 6.2 small image, restoring it to a large drive and hacking it. Both the 6.2 slices and 6.2 small image are on emule. The main thread for upgrading and hacking to 6.2 is here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41347). A fourth option is to copy your existing drive to a new drive using mfstools, then upgrading that. This is desirable because it probably already has the slices AND your recordings.
