I've been searching but haven't found an answer yet. I've got TyTools and love it, but I unfortunately can't use it on my work laptop which prevents me from running "unapproved" applications. I would like to use Tivoweb or a similar tool to download the MPG stream when I travel overseas. I thought Tivoweb could do this, but I can't find a module or a way to make it happen.

Is there a web server out there to run on the Tivo that will give me the accessibility of Tivoweb and the ability to decode & download that TyTools does?

Thanks!

I don't know of any web-based tools that will allow you to extract shows over the internet but you can access your Tivo remotely by setting up an account with this website:

https://gotomydvr.com/index.php

I've never used it myself so I can't vouch for how it works or what it does exactly. It will require that you hack your Tivo and install the client software on your Tivo. I believe it gives you remote access from anywhere using TivoWebPlus but I don't know if it supports extraction, although if you have the proper modules installed that work with TWP then I don't see why it wouldn't.

It looks like they just offer dynamic DNS service? I can't tell from the site what else they offer.

I've got a dynamic DNS host already, configured by my router, so I can access it anywhere; the problem is that all the current tools seem to require an executable client, or a less-than-friendly command-line interface I'd have to run via telnet.

Any other ideas? I found this improvement for extraction: http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53157 which is an improvement over TyTools, but still requires (as far as I can tell) a local client.

I'm thinking Tivoweb can probably do this, just if there were a module for it? I haven't found one yet...

Checkout TySuiteJ (in this forum). I think it will give you exactly what you want. You can run the app itself on another machine on your home network and then download standard mpeg2 files straight to your laptop for later viewing.

I can run the app on another machine, but... I'd need remote control of that machine to pull the data off the TiVo, right? I'm doing that now with TyTools- at least, I pull the data off the TiVo & serve it from that machine via FTP. I'm looking to be able to eliminate that step for when stuff is recorded while I'm out of the country (and can't get to it with TyTools).

Wait- does the TySuiteJ web server run on the host machine as an actual server that I can access from another box (a real web server, not a client web app)? If so then it does sound like it will work. I'll give it a shot tonight.

Thanks!

You might also want to look at this TivoWeb Extraction Module (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32049); you'll need some mfs_ftp binaries (Jamie's mfs_* utils) in your tivoweb /bin_ folder (or create symlinks from existing mfs_ftp setup). It looks like there are some recent posts in this thread...I'm a little intrigued by this myself, I think I'm going to try and get this working.

That's correct.

Yep- installed it last night and it's working like a champ. I have to say this is slicker than greased monkey poop. TySuiteJ finally justifies having a TiVo for me. MUCH slicker UI than TyTools and has the web-based functionality I've been looking for all along.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and support!
