Hello,
I was wondering if Tivo Desktop will work with a Tivo 2 Directv DVR and receiver combo. I see when installing the Tivo Desktop software it ask for a Media Access Key and I do not see that on my Directv unit?

Thanks JR

It will work if you have the S2 DTivo hacked with the superpatch applied. You don't need a media access key with the superpatch.

Hello,

I have the Directv Hughes HDVR2 model. Is this a model that will work with superpatch and Tivo Desktop?

Thanks JR

Yes, it will. Just to be clear, Tivo Desktop can only be used to serve up JPGs and MP3s to a superpatched DirecTivo. You will not get TivoToGo or anything else. But once you have a hacked and superpatched DirecTivo, there are much better ways to do extraction/insertion anyway.

Instead of Tivo Desktop consider JavaHMO (http://javahmo.sourceforge.net/). It does a lot more than serve up MP3s and pictures. The last version was 2.4 (Feb. '05), and no future development is planned. But it's been rock solid for me.

I have two hacked DirecTV Tivo RCA DVR40 hacked with superpatch, instantcake & PTVnet. I downloaded JVA HMO for windows on my XP computer, but I cannot get it to link up to my Tivos. I do have MRV installed also. Any help would be nice. Also is there a way I can transfer movies, preferably MP4 from my PC to my DirecTV Tivos' hard drives.
Thanks

JavaHMO can't connect to your hacked Tivos because DTivos don't have the Media Access Key JavaHMO (and Tivo Desktop) needs. You use JavaHMO to serve content *TO* the Tivo using the Tivo's Music and Photos menu.

Use tivoserver to serve up movies from your PC to your Tivos using MRV. Check the tivoserver thread to see if it supports mp4 format, though.

Just for the record JavaHMO does not ask for a MAK.

True, it doesn't proactively ask for it. But I believe if you wanted to connect to the DTivo from JavaHMO you'd have to supply the MAK in JavaHMO and have that MAK stored on the DTivo, just like with the Standalone Tivos.

rubbish.. I use java hmo and no mak in any of my tivos.. you need your tivos and java pc to be on the same network.. and check your services on the pc sometimes javahmo will not start up... I needed to add a requires service registry entry to get it to start up after tivo desktop so they did not step on each other.. also java hmo is not very usefull anymore the weather and movie options no longer work for me (changes to the web links probably) and only old rss 1.0 feeds work and then only some of them ..

It's not rubbish - there is a spot to enter a MAK. And there is a fix for the movie plugin.

see: http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=239993&postcount=5

The weather needs a whole rework from what I read.

just because there is a spot for it does not mean it is not rubbish what is rubbish is the statement that it is required to use java hmo.. as I said and stand by it I u se java hmo and DO NOT HAVE access keys in my tivos.. so to say it is required is RUBBISH...

I am not nor did I argue this point. I was meerly pointing out that there IS a place to put the MAK in the software and that it is not asked for when installed. I understood your previous comment to indicate differently. Perhaps I misunderstood by the way it was worded.

Just to let you know, the movies plugin is an easy fix. Open the movie class file "movie.class". It's a text file. Look for all the lines that have the url for the web site that contains "print" in it. That is what is screwing things up. Go to movies.com and do a search for your local theaters. Copy and paste that url for every line in that file that contains and url with "print" in it. Also, you might want to search and replace everly url line that does not contain the correct zip code. Save the file. Don't forget to save the original in case you screw up. I did this and waited a few hours or you could wait one day and then everything downloads and is working.:)
