View Full Version : TivoWebPlus TyShowLinks = 1 Doesn't Work

I have a Phillips 708 that I upgraded to a 250 gig drive with mfstools and then hacked using ptvnet. ptvnet script installed TivoWebPlus 1.3.1. I can get to the TivoWebPlus webserver, look at a Now Showing-like listing (though things don't actually show in folders). I applied superpatch and now have things being recorded unencrypted. I installed tytools and downloaded/converted recordings since superpatch and I can view the resulting mpg files in wmp.
Now...read that to get View links in TivoWebPlus all I need to do is edit the TivoWeb.cfg file and change the line to TyShowLinks = 1. I fired up vi, edited the line, rebooted, but I still don't get any links??? The menu option I click to see the Now Playing-like list of recordings is labeled Folders. I can click on individual recordings to see details, etc. Anyone have this happen? Any suggestions about where to go from here?

The Folders option on the main menu doesn't have the links, but they are on the Now Showing list under Interface. Found it.

Hi,
I've got my zippered DVR40 networked, bufferhacked, etc. and working good, I'm able to use TyTools 10r4 and transfer and watch shows on my pc and laptop. But I can't find the tivoweb.cfg file in bash to change it to TyShowLinks = 1.
And I don't see "Now Showing", I see "NPL" and when I go to NPL and select tivo, a page opens up saying "webpage cannot be displayed".
Question is, how do I get to the tivoweb.cfg in bash ?
Thanks
If you were mounted read-only the first time you started TWP, the active .cfg file is in /var/TWP/config.

You have to edit the file with vi (or joe if you have it installed).

so if I edit to TyShowLinks = 1, that will take care of all the "command not found" also ?
You're getting those errors because you're trying to run the .cfg file. You can edit the file with vi or joe or even Hackman if it's working, then do a quick reload of Tivoweb. If Tivoweb isn't running open a telnet session, change to the directory that you installed TWP in and run it with ./tivoweb.

Well, thank you guys for trying to help but I can't figure out how to get the .cfg file into vi so I can edit it. I'm sure it's easy for you but it looks like I've got a lot more reading to do.

Yes it does. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=vi+editor Googling that took less time than it would to post a question here, and brought back LOTS of results. It's quite amazing sometimes what a few seconds of searching can find you.

Of course it takes less time if you start off knowing exactly what you need to search for but you'll notice my question was "how do I get to the tivoweb.cfg in bash ?"

Isn't it though

Okay, thanks to your help here guys, I got the file edited and saved with vi.
It's the first time I've used vi and the links on google got me going.
I have confirmed that TyShowLinks = 1 now however when I go to the Now Playing list with my browser I still don't see "view" or "live buffer" anywhere. I've tried restarting TWP and I've telnetted in and started vserver.
Can you point me in the right direction ? I don't know what else to try at this point.
Much Thanks

At the very end of the show description, you should see a hyperlink for "asx/tivo" if you click on the asx link it will produce a pop-up that asks what application your browser should open the file with. Windows Media Player typically shows by default if you have the TyShow codec installed for asx files. Click open and you're off...

Oh, OK. I was expecting to see "view" or "live". I have tried clicking on asx several times. I had VLC player and that wouldn't play it so I uninstalled that and I've got TyShow-BETA-0.11 and have registered the files(I think correctly) and still when I click asx in NP, Windows Media Player gives a notice that the file type not be recognised and closes. I also telnet in and start vserver and it says "waiting for connections on port 8074".
I feel like I'm close but missing something simple. Thanks ScanMan.

That sounds like you do not have the Tyshow codec installed.

Thanks ttodd1, you're probably right but I don't know what else to do about it. I've been reading and googling and I'm even on my pc now instead of my laptop. This is the pc I use 10r4 to d/l and burn to DVD's and I've even just tried d/ling TyShow-BETA-0.14 and installing it on this pc and when I click on asx in NP the VLC comes up and acts like it's going to play but will not.
I don't mean to be a pest on this but it's really driving me nuts
I've been searching and reading and am continuing to, if you can provide any more info it will be much appreciated !
Thanks

Finally, I got it !:D
The asx links in Now Playing are now playing in WMP:)
I don't know how to get to view live buffer but at least this is working.
Thanks for all your help and patience guys, I really appreciate it
